Things To Do
Hampshire is home to the famous Hangers Way, a 21 mile long route from Queen Elizabeth Country Park, just south of Petersfield, to Alton Railway Station. Downlands Farm is conveniently located just 10 minutes from approximately the half-way point of this historic walk.
Please see this Hampshire County Council link for walking in Hampshire which provides you with information of short and long distance walks in the area.
For guests wishing to walk with children in pushchairs, please enquire upon booking and we can make an off-road pushchair available to you.
Guests are welcome to bring their horses to Downlands Farm. Horses will be accommodated in our Lodden stables and tack will be held securely in a padlocked tackroom. We have the space to store horseboxes on site. We can provide details of bridal paths accessible from our farm.
If riders wish to explore further afield, notable bridal paths in Hampshire include The South Downs Way, Meon Valley Trail and Queen Elizabeth Country Park, all within a 15 minute drive from Downlands Farm.
Please see the link below detailing the cycle routes in the area.
We are lucky to have the advantage of living in the countryside yet being only half an hour's drive to the coast. A short trip down the A3 will take you to Portsmouth and surrounding areas which is home to the shingle beaches of Hayling Island and Southsea. Whilst not the most attractive (!), these beaches are such fun for children, both with small fun fairs, traditional fish and chip shops and plenty of pop-up attractions in the summer months.
Further along the coast towards Chichester, is the beautiful Blue Flag beach of West Wittering. A privately owned strip of land, the beach is immaculate and can be enjoyed throughout the year. When the tide goes out, it provides a wonderful playground for children and their buckets and spades and there are lifeguards on duty during the summer months for peace of mind. The beach has loos, ice cream kiosks and a small cafe. Horse riding is permitted on the beach during the winter months and restricted to before 9am and after 6pm from May to September.
